About our Cruiser Section

Cruising is great fun for young and old alike, whether you want to sail in the Solent and explore its many harbours and anchorages or venture further afield to visit more distant shores. Not much beats life on the ocean wave! New members will be made very welcome at Tudor Sailing Club.

We have a mixed fleet ranging from small day boats to larger cruisers, but most boats need to be able to take the ground due to the drying nature of most of our moorings. We have 75 moorings in the top northwest corner of Langstone Harbour (Broom Channel) for boats up to 11m, which the Club manages on behalf of Langstone Harbour Board. Moorings are allocated by the bosuns committee with mooring holders responsible for their own mooring gear.

Our moorings are relatively sheltered and our long, shallow slipway allows launching of tenders at all states of tide. Most mooring holders opt for winter layup in our secure compound where we accommodate as many boats as possible. The club owns a tractor and hoist (rig) which facilitates launching and recovery of our cruisers during two weekends a year, at which all cruiser owners are expected to help.

Members enjoy a variety of cruises within the Solent as well as longer distance trips, including Cross Channel and West Country passages.

We have an active Cruiser WhatsApp group and also Cruiser Google Sheets to share destination plans for those wanting to cruise in company. Please contact us if you would like to be added to these groups.

Racing

There is an active racing schedule which is well supported. This includes a mixture of racing series and trophy races, both in harbour and in and around the Solent. If you are looking for a friendly sailing club with good access to the water for cruising, please do get in touch.
